Dainik Prantajyoti, the oldest news daily of the north east India flagged off its journey as a fortnightly on 12th January, 1957 in the name style ‘Jyoti’. After few issues Jyoti became weekly. The name was then changed to Prantojyoti as another Paper was already in existence bearing the same name. It was in the year 1961 when entire Barak Valley was turbulent to fight out government’s decision to scrap the rights of Bengali language. The legendary media person of Barak Valley Jyotirindra Chandra Dutta popularly known as Kalada was the founder editor of Prantojyoti. He started a news daily Telegram’ in the form of a Postcard to depict the development of the mass agitation on daily basis for the readers. Being inspired by the overwhelming support to Telegram he came out with the first ever news daily of the region Dainik Prantojyoti. Dainik Prantojyoti attained an irresistible position in the mind of readers its impartial pro people news publications. But a devastating fire put an end to the ambitions of the veteran Journalist, kalada. The Press as well as the costly machines was set ablaze in the inferno, Kalada found it a herculean task to carry forward the venture any longer and handed over the batten to the young and upcoming electronic media barons Manish Das and Subrata Paul along with his blessings. Dainik Prantojyoti started its second innings under the able leadership of veteran journalist Paresh Dutta. The first issue was published on 9th May, 2009. Dainik Prantojyoti equipped with modern machineries and a highly professional team of journalists and desk personals has been able to achieve an envious position within the very first year among the readers. The circulation in the first year surpassed all previous records in the local media. Dainik Prantojyoti has ambitious Plans to go for more expansions in the near future.
